Stuart McIntyre

Stuart McIntyre is a painter based in Kent. He works on rough-cut board, raw plywood, paper — whatever's to hand. The edges are chipped. The surfaces carry scuffs and dirt from the garage where finished paintings get stacked between the lawnmower and the shelving. None of that gets cleaned up. It's part of it.

By day he manages a farm. He grew up in a Kent mining village — where things got built, worn down, and built again. That cycle is in the paintings: bold geometry thrown against churned-up colour, cubes and spheres tumbling through landscapes that feel half-remembered and half-invented. Look closer and you'll find fine brushwork, precise edges, and considered detail sitting right next to splatter and raw gesture. He's art school trained, and it shows — but he's not interested in being precious about it.

The ink drawings make the point even harder to ignore. Dense, obsessive crosshatching builds up trees, root systems, and dark spaces over hours of painstaking work. Thousands of marks, each one deliberate. Where the paintings hit you across the room, the drawings make you lean in.

He has shown at the Bottle Alley Art Market in Hastings. His work is held in private collections. He doesn't do openings or social media — he paints in his living room and lets the work speak.
